ChatGPT ads and AI agent ads for South African businesses

CapeWeb sets up and manages ChatGPT ads for South African businesses, and extends campaigns to other AI assistants as they open to advertisers here. OpenAI added South Africa to ChatGPT Ads on 21 October 2026. We handle the targeting, ad copy, landing pages and tracking, and can connect each click to an AI agent that follows up on your site or WhatsApp.

  • Available in SA: Since 21 October 2026
  • Where ads show: Below ChatGPT answers, on Free and Go plans
  • Also covers: Other AI assistants as they open in SA
  • Management fee: Fixed written quote within 48 hours

How ChatGPT ads work

ChatGPT ads are labelled sponsored placements shown below an answer, separate from the answer itself. They appear for people on the Free and Go plans, not on Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise, and not for accounts identified as under 18.

There are no keywords to bid on. You describe the conversations your ad belongs in using "context hints", and every ad is reviewed before it goes live. That rewards a clear offer and a landing page that matches what the person just asked about.

What we mean by AI agent ads

ChatGPT is the first stop, not the only one. Google and Microsoft are also bringing ads into their AI answers and assistants, but availability differs by country and changes quickly. We check what is open to South African advertisers before recommending any spend.

The other half of an AI agent ad is what happens after the click. An ad can lead to an AI agent on your site or on WhatsApp that answers questions, qualifies the lead and books the call, so a click at 10pm does not sit waiting until morning.

Start with a measured test

ChatGPT ads are new in South Africa, so there is very little local performance data yet. We treat the first campaign as a measured test alongside the channels that already work for you, not a replacement for them. It is worth testing if your buyers ask ChatGPT for advice before they choose, such as comparing a tour, a contractor or a software product.

ChatGPT & AI Agent Ads South Africa — frequently asked questions

Can South African businesses advertise on ChatGPT?
Yes. OpenAI added South Africa to ChatGPT Ads on 21 October 2026. The legal entity that advertises and gets billed must be based in an eligible country, so the account belongs to your registered South African business. New accounts may start with limits on where they can target, so we confirm what your account can do during setup.
What is an AI agent ad?
An ad shown inside an AI assistant or agent, rather than on a search results page or social feed. We also use the term for an ad that hands the click to your own AI agent, which answers questions and books the call on your site or WhatsApp.
Will buying ads get my business recommended in ChatGPT answers?
No. Ads appear separately from the answer, and OpenAI says advertisers cannot influence what ChatGPT responds. Getting cited in the answer itself is a different job called Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), which we also do. GEO earns the citation; ads buy a placement beside the conversation.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost?
You pay OpenAI for the ads, billed per click or per view, and pay CapeWeb a separate management fee. Minimum budgets and recommended bids depend on your billing currency and change often, so we confirm the current figures before launch. You get a fixed written quote for our work within 48 hours of your discovery call.
